Student
Achievements
Here is a list of recent student
achievements:
The jazz
ensembles at BCAM represented by amateur musicians of all ages from the region
and beyond have accumulated seven gold and four silver medals in the
Kiwanis Music Festival. Many students have become professional
players. The ensembles are directed by Yves Laroche who directs the
University of Ottawa Jazz Ensemble and Stephen Boudreau who conducted the
Carleton University Big Band last year. Stephen is a former student of
BCAM.
The
Tuesday Night Jazz Ensemble played on the main stage of the Ottawa
International Jazz Festival 2002. The group performed at the "Arts
and Sole" community fund-raiser for the Gloucester Arts Council and was
featured on a television program on the New R.O.. A
devoted tradition for the past seven years, The Monday Night Jazz Ensemble
performed at the Alzheimer's Walk for Memories.
With great
success, many students participated in the Kiwanis Festival; some have
gone far as competing at the Provincial finals. One student was invited to
perform at the Gala concert for the Ottawa West Junior Music Club.
It is very
common for students to do practical and theory exams for the Royal Conservatory
of Music of The University of Toronto. Last year, most students received
"First Class Honours" or "First Class Honours With Distinction". Many students participated in
workshops such as the Ottawa Flute Association Flute Camp, the Bells Corners
Academy of Music Jazz Camp and many more..
In the
vocal programme, students performed in numerous musicals such as "The
Pirates of Penzance", "The Princess and The Pirate" and
"Jesus Christ Superstar" to name a few. Thanks to our devoted vocal
teacher, Misty Banyard, enrollment
the vocal programme has nearly doubled in the last two years.
Students
perform a minimum of two concerts per year in the rehearsal studio; the level
of playing and musicianship is very professional.
